STRONGER TOGETHER

Our Mission

The Cancer Kickers Soccer Club is a non-profit organization committed to providing Comfort, Community, and Connections to children 18 years old and younger fighting cancer. We all become a little stronger, work a little harder, and find courage when we are surrounded by love and support.

We achieve these goals by approaching our opponent as a team. Together we share the same jersey and sport our own unique numbers. Through community, we ensure that no child is left to play alone on the field, and we empower our teammates and their families with the resources and support that they need. At the end of the day, Cancer Kickers Soccer Club is about more than simply sharing the same colors on a jersey — it’s about being part of a team.

Our Story

Our story is the story of a family that loves giving. The Cancer Kickers Soccer Club was started as a family passion project in 2016 by Michelle and Chris Clothier, and since then, it has enriched the lives of our family tremendously. We have made it our goal to spread that giving because every day we are blessed to meet and support such brave and strong kids. Each teammate is resilient in their strong story, showing how we can each maintain a positive outlook in the bleakest of times.

Today, Cancer Kickers is an international club dedicated to providing support to our brave teammates. We are committed to following the 100% model, where all overhead and operational funding is provided by dedicated supporters so that every dollar donated goes directly to uplifting the spirits of the Cancer Kickers Soccer Club team.

Neza's Journey

25 Apr, 2022

Give a warm CKSC welcome to Neza! This beautiful young lady is 15 years old. Neza is battling non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Neza’s cancer journey began in the spring of 2020 when she found a mass in her lower abdomen. Her initial thought was that she has a swollen ovary. By August, Neza’s mass started causing her severe pain. She had an ultrasound performed. From there, she was referred to a local clinic where a series of tests were conducted. The tests revealed that Neza had Lymphoma. Shortly after diagnosis, Neza had a central venous catheter inserted under her clavicle through which she received chemotherapy, antibiotics, and other drugs. Neza received seven cycles of strong chemotherapy in addition to having surgery during her seven months of active treatment. In February 2021, she received her last dose of chemotherapy! Since then, Neza has been going to see her oncologist monthly for a check-up and blood work. Currently, everything is going well and Neza’s test results continue to be positive! On February 16, 2022, Neza’s central venous catheter was removed, which marked the final end of her treatment. Neza likes to bake, help other people, and go for walks. She aspires to one day become a pediatrician. Neza is an active member of The Gold Ribbon Institute, Children with Cancer which works to connect and help children all over Slovenia who are battling or have survived cancer.

Strong Savanna

20 Apr, 2022

Say hi to Savanna! This strong little girl is four years old. Savanna is battling Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma. Savanna was diagnosed in January 2020. Her parents thought they were taking her to the doctor for a bowel blockage, however, their world quickly fell apart when the pediatrics team confirmed that was not the case. Savanna was then rushed to BC Children’s Hospital by ambulance in a snow storm. It was here that doctors confirmed Savanna’s official diagnosis and where she began her first 42-day hospital stay. Savanna underwent many months of intense treatment, which included chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, as well as a stem cell transplant. In February 2021 Savanna underwent scans which came back clear. She was declared cancer free! On March 1, 2021 Savanna’s central line was removed which signified the end of treatment. She was finally able to ring the bell! In October 2021, Savanna relapsed. She is currently in the middle of a 12-month protocol. This past month she began cycle seven of chemotherapy. Savanna loves princesses and playing with baby dolls. She is hoping to start taking dance classes soon and is looking forward to attending preschool in September!
