Jay's Journey
Say hello to Jay, the newest addition to team Kids Kickin Cancer! This handsome young man is fourteen years old. Jay was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma on March 10, 2019.
Jay’s cancer journey began when he started experiencing severe headaches and vomiting. His parents decided it was necessary to take him to the emergency room in their hometown to find out what was causing these abnormalities. Doctors determined Jay had a brain tumor. Within a matter of days, Jay was flown to a larger hospital in North Carolina which was more advanced and capable of performing the necessary surgery to remove his tumor. Jay’s surgery lasted nine hours.
Jay’s parents made the decision to come to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN to continue their son’s treatment. After reviewing his case, Jay’s doctors at St. Jude decided he would need another surgery to remove what was left of his brain tumor. This second surgery took eight hours to perform. In addition to the surgeries he has undergone, Jay has endured thirty proton radiation treatments along with seven rounds of chemotherapy treatments. During his time at St. Jude Jay has also participated in occupational therapy + physical therapy. We are very happy to announce that in January 2020 Jay completed his last round of chemotherapy! He is very much looking forward to returning home to North Carolina and having his family back together again!
