What is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and How Can You Help?

As many of you are aware, September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This month Cancer Kickers Soccer Club is proud to be “Going Gold” in honor and in memory of children with cancer. We are committed to ensuring that childhood cancer receives the spotlight that it deserves.

In 2012, President Obama proclaimed September National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This month is dedicated to bringing awareness to pediatric cancer, which sadly is the leading cause of death by disease for children under the age of 14.

Did you know that 43 kids are diagnosed with cancer every single day in the US? Globally there are more than 300,00 children diagnosed with cancer each year. Every three minutes, somewhere in the world a family is told that their child has cancer. These numbers are devastating.

The best way to honor these courageous children is to help spread awareness. Today, we are sharing five ways in which you can do so:

5 Ways to Spread Awareness

1. Fundraise for Research

It is no secret that childhood cancer research is significantly underfunded. Less than 4% of the annual federal budget for cancer research is dedicated to childhood cancer. These kids deserve so much more and they are counting on us to help provide support for much-needed research.

2. Share cancer facts, research stories, as well as hero stories

3. Go Gold on your Social Media

This is an easy way to help spread awareness within your social circle.

4. Find an Organization to Donate to

There are numerous organizations around the world doing incredible work to support children battling cancer along with their families. Do some investigating and make a monetary donation to an organization that you feel passionate about.

5. Host an Awareness Event

Many people are unaware of the statistics surrounding childhood cancer. The more people that know the facts, the better. We need as many people as humanly possible advocating for children with cancer.

We encourage you to join us this month in recognizing the thousands of children and families that are affected by childhood cancer each year. These kids deserve more funding and better treatment options. With your help, research advances can be made that will change the future of childhood cancer treatment.
